The earthquake has rocked Durres, Albania killing over 50 people and destroying buildings across the city.
Our staff report people are suffering PTSD, with many afraid or unable to return home. All our sponsored families have been confirmed physically safe.
We are supporting people through the grief and helping those in need find shelter. Our ongoing work and relationships in Durres mean MWB will be supporting through the aftermath of the quake for the long term.
Monika Qerimi, Mission Without Borders Albania Director, says, “Durres will never be the same city again, not only because of the many ruined buildings, or the hundreds of flats evaluated and unsuitable for habitation, but because of so many lives lost, while so many other people remain unaccounted for. The overall situation is one of sadness and shock."
