Many people living in the grips of poverty have to choose between eating food or heating their home, can you imagine that?

A More Than Soup fundraiser is a fun and simple way to raise money for a hot nutritious meal for an elderly person living in the grips of poverty. By inviting your friends to a meal and asking them for a donation, you can make a real difference to the elderly person who rely on the Mission Without Border's Soup Kitchens.

Trophym, pictured here is 90 years old and lives alone in a small house in Sarny, western Ukraine. Trophym's pension is very small, so in summer he grows vegetables and keep chickens to earn some extra money. Although Trophym lives in poverty his still bright eyes reveal his sharp mind and sense of humour. Trophym looks forward to seeing our Soup Kitchen volunteers and who bring him hot meals in which he so desperately needs.

More Than Soup is an answer to the question, "How can I help?"

About our Soup Kitchens

The money you fundraise goes towards Soup Kitchens that help people in desperate need. The Soup Kitchens work in partnership with the local church, Mission Without Border staff and volunteers, who provide hot, nutritious meals for elderly people and others who are unable to leave their homes.

The meals are delivered five days a week and we also talk to them about the Love of God.

Nina, a 17-year-old student at Sarny Vocational training centre, run by Mission Without Borders, volunteers at MWB’s Soup Kitchen in Sarny, western Ukraine. The Soup Kitchen has been running for over 14 years, providing meals to the elderly and disabled. Meals are delivered to people who are housebound. Nina says, “When I first met the elderly people and saw their living conditions, I was distressed. I couldn’t believe that this kind of poverty still exists in our age of comfort and opportunities."

"Social institutions do a miserable job of helping the situation of these elderly people living in such poverty. God wants us to take care of them. He needs us to get involved, to help them practically and to care for them as people. We receive so much love in return! The old people thank us and bless us. They call us their children and grandchildren.”  Nina, 17-year-old volunteer, MWB Sarny

“I saw people who stay at home for months on end and can't take care of even their most basic needs. They literally just exist and survive."  – Nina
